The 1970's were the most successful years for the club, winning at least one competition every season and featuring three trips to Wembley.

This was also the decade the club were granted senior status, became founder members of the Essex Senior League and moved in to New Lodge.

It was around this time that the clubs badge was designed.  It still depicts The Mayflower, a well recognised name and symbol throughout the town.

The Blues spent six seasons in the Essex Senior League, winning it three times and finishing as runners-up twice.  They'd also won four Essex Senior League Challenge Cups.

John Newman would manage the club to its first two Wembley appearances before leaving in November 1979 to join Chelmsford City.  His assistant, Colin Searle, became First Team Manager in January 1979 only to resign at the end of the season, but not before leading the club to a third F.A. Vase title.

By the decades end The Blues had joined the Isthmian League under the management of Paddy Betson.
